mented two significant eco-
logical measures: a new lighting
system and a wastepaper-col-
lection system. The lighting sys-
tem in the company's produc-
tion facilities was turned into
an energy-efficient solution by
replacing old lighting fixtures
with 1,700 new ones, and by
installing 3,400 Aura Eco Saver
Long Life fluorescent lamps
in these. “Annual energy con-
sumption is expected to be
reduced by up to 0.5gwh,”

noise generated by production.
Wastepaper left over from
printing is transferred from
printing machines to the col-
lection system in a soundproof
space. The system generates
heat that is returned to the
production facilities as heated
air. “We can decrease the use
of district heating significantly,”
Anttila says. “In addition, the
system reduces noise, which in
turn makes the working envi-
ronment more pleasant and
helps us to meet the noise-
restriction requirements of
the residential area, which will
be built near the production
plant.”

we focused strongly on minimizing waste and increasing
recycling. Over the past decade, the number of waste frac-
tions to be sorted separately has increased, but at the same
time it has become possible to recycle a larger range of mate-
rials. Currently, about 91 percent of the total waste volume
is recyclable. The cash flow from waste disposal is positive:
waste sold brings in more funds than the amount paid for
waste disposal.
Energy efficiency
At Edita’s production sites, energy is used to operate
machines and equipment as well as for heating, lighting and
ventilation of the premises. All of Edita’s companies use dis-
trict heating, and their only water source is the municipal
water supply. In 2011, both Edita Prima and Edita Västra
Aros renewed their lighting systems. The new, more energy-
efficient lighting fixtures and lamps will reduce electricity
consumption by about 1.1gwh per year.
Climate neutrality
Climate change does not pose a substantial risk to Edita’s
business in the near future, as its effects have been less
