Event: Javelin throw

Ari Mannio saved the day for Finnish athletics by winning the host nation’s only medal at

the European Championships in Helsinki in 2012. He made his Olympic debut later that

summer in London. Ari has won three medals at World or European junior championships

and first represented Finland at senior level at the World Championships of 2011 in Dae-

gu. In the same year he also won the javelin throw at the World Military Championships

in Rio de Janeiro. Ari works as a sergeant at the military sports school in Helsinki.
