Oskari Mörö surprised Finnish athletics fans at the 2014 European Championships in Zurich: he improved his
personal best by more than a second to reach the final in 400 metres hurdles. He made the European final again
in Amsterdam in July 2016 and finished fourth with the time of 49.24, which earned him a ticket to Rio as the
only Finnish male running athlete. Rio de Janeiro will not actually be Oskari’s first Olympic experience: in 2010 he
finished fifth in the 400-metre hurdles final at the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore, but was disqualified due to
faulty technique at one hurdle.

Aleksi Ojala

Aleksi Ojala earned his ticket to Rio in March 2016 by shedding no less than 11 minutes off his personal best in a
competition at Dudince, Slovakia. That was actually only the second full 50 kilometre race in his career; he failed
to finish at the World Championships in Beijing 2015 as the heat got the better of him. Only 23, Aleksi has set his
targets to Tokyo 2020 and the Games beyond. He is coached by Reima Salonen, the 1982 European champion in
50 kilometres.
