EQUESTRIAN

The best Olympic result of Finnish equestrian sport is fifth place, first achieved by Hans Olof von Essen in eventing in Paris

1924 and later equalled three times by Kyra Kyrklund in dressage (1980, 1988 and 1992). Kyrklund finished her Olympic career

in Hongkong 2008 after taking part in six Games. That could have been eight, but injuries to her horses forced her to withdraw

in 2000 and 2004. In eventing the latest Finnish Olympic competitor has been Piia Pantsu, who did not finish the cross-country

phase in Sydney 2000.
