BADMINTON

Finnish badminton players have taken part at every Olympic tournament since Barcelona 1992, where badminton made its

debut as an official Olympic sport. The best result so far is Ville Lång’s place in the top 16 in men’s singles in Beijing 2008.

Nanna Vainio

The year 2016 has seen Nanna Vainio rise to the top 60 in women’s singles rankings and earn a ticket to Rio for

her Olympic debut. In April she reached the quarter-finals at the European Championships at La Roche-sur-Yon,

France. Nanna honed her badminton skills while studying for her degree at Loughborough University in England and

Copenhagen Business School in Denmark. She also plays regularly in the German Badminton-Bundesliga. Nanna

currently serves as chair of the Athletes Commission of the European badminton association.

2012 EurCh 33–57th.

2014 EurCh 33–47th.

2016 EurCh 5–8th.
