Tapio Nirkko is the Finn in the Finn class for the third Olympic Games running. He has sailed in the world elite for
more than a decade, with European silver of 2009 and fifth place at the Finn Gold Cup – the World Champion-
ship event in the class –of 2012 as best results so far. In August 2015 he raised hopes by finishing second in an
Olympic test regatta in Rio de Janeiro. Tapio is married with a two-year-old daughter. He is studying for a degree in
sports sciences at the University of Jyväskylä.
