Rio 2016 will be third Olympic Games for Emilia Pikkarainen, who made her debut at 15 in Beijing 2008. She
returned to the swimming circuit in late 2014 after an absence of more than a year due to infection caused by
Mycoplasma bacteria. In May 2016 she swam the butterfly leg when Finland won bronze in 4 x 100 metres medley
relay at the European Championships in London. Emilia is coached by her father Jukka Pikkarainen. Her boyfriend is
the Formula One driver Valtteri Bottas.
